Default Poor acceleration/performance

My 3.7L 1997 lacks normal acceleration. There are no error codes showing up at all. However, the poor acceleration remains. The transmission has been serviced (oil and filter replaced. I feel as if the motor and transmission are not communicating properly and the transmission is definitely sticking in 3rd gear on mild acceleration from zero. Due to the many trips to the dealer, I have lost all confidence in the Audi dealer(s) and am looking for help/guidance to resolve? The last comment the Audi dealer made was to rebuild the transmission and that should fix the problem! Really great diagnosis eh?

I wouldn't go to that dealer, that's for sure.

Where are you? Perhaps there's a good indy mechanic nearby.

Can you do this procedure when in sport mode as well?

Default Re: Have you tried resetting the 'learning'? (WOT procedure)

Yes, thanks for your suggestion but the transmission response is still the same. I thought there was another procedure as well to re-program the throttle valve? If anyone has details please post. I cannot believe my transmission requires rebuilding and am sure there must be a "reasonable" fix. Is there a control cable adjustment to the transmission??

Default Here's an oddball question for you.

What transmission do you have? Is it a 5-speed or a 4-speed. Didn't some of the early non-U.S.-market A8s have a 4-speed auto?

The 5HP24A is all electric/electronic, no cable.

BTW, you can get a rebuilt transmission here for US$2500. But I sure wouldn't assume that's it, either.

Default A little correction. There is mechanical connection between the shifter and the tranny.

I don't know about the 3.7 (5HP19 01V ), but my 4.2 ( 5HP24 01L )has a connection. When you shift, you moving the multifunction switch F125 with the shifter cable and a valve in the valve body.

The cable is connected here.

This pin moves the valve in the valve body. If you remove the valve body, it is important to line up the valve with the pin when you put the valve body back.

Thanks for this. Do you know of a procedure for resetting the transmission electronic control module memory? I still feel there is an opportunity to fix this by resetting the computer. A local suggested disconnecting the battery and then following the WOT procedure?

You can disconnect the battery or the TCU only. 20 minutes sould do it.
