Pricing for 2001 S8
How does $51,000 for a 2001 S8 w/23K miles sound?
Nice example on ebay. Check out item No. 2414148784.
What would be a fair price for a comparable A8 (i.e., excellent condition, 25K miles, etc.)?
I really want to buy an A8, but I've been outbid each time. I'm probably too picky and cheap! Thanks for your thoughts.

Re: Pricing for 2001 S8
I probably should have clarified my question: How far off are Edmunds and Kelly Blue Book? It seems they overprice cars -- both on sale and trade-in values.

Re: Pricing for 2001 S8
Is the S8 Audi Assured? They are turning out advertised at that price now, but I don't know what people are actually paying for them. Hard to tell, there aren't many S8's out there.
As far as a comparable A8, I believe that the A8's and A8L's are falling faster than the S8's. My comfort point on a comparable 2001 A8 would be mid-thirties, maybe high thirties if Audi Assured.
Try this, it has strangely been working and the only reason I can think of is the real state of the economy -
Go to the dealer, show interest in the car, test drive it. Let them do a credit report on you so they know you can make the payments on the car. Don't talk money, state that you are interested but need to think on it.
1. They will lower the price before you walk out.
2. Two days later, they will call you back and the price will be lower.
At this point, you still haven't shown your cards.
I am telling you this from personal experience, the fact that this is happening now truly baffles me.

About what I paid
I won an auction for a 2001 S8 from this same seller last fall at about the same price, my car has Nav which this one doesn't and I had lower miles (approx 16k) however mine was also a manuafacturer buyback and this one isn't (And no - I have not had any problems in the 7,000 miles I have put on it since buying). On the whole I haven't seen any at dealers near this price - usually they are in high 50's or low 60's. With no definite news on new S8 model in north anerica I think (and Hope) S8 prices will hold well

Re: About what I paid
Thanks for the input. Your car looks great. Did you have a good experience with this seller? Would you buy through ebay again?
Now for a loaded question, I've driven the A8, but not the S8. Do you recommend shelling out the additional $$. If you have the alcantara leather, is it holding up and do you recommend it?
Thanks again.
