I'm buying a new car from an out-of-town Audi dealer. I was told I need to furnish my driver's license and my SSN to purchase the car.
SSN??
The dealer said it's federal requirement. Is it?

The govt requires the dealer to provide your info to the IRS if
the transaction exceeds $10,000. That is if you are paying with cash or a personal check and the amount exceeds $10,000.
You do not have to provide your ssn if you are paying with a bank check or certified check.
