Q: What is the purpose of the black push button under the gas pedal?

I'm not an auto guy -- till recently...
Is it for kick-down? Not that kick-down is much of a help -- at D at 50mph, it takes 2 sec at least before speed peaks up. I'm better off dropping the tip to 4 and stepping on the gas.

You might put that in your sig. Looking at your pictureposter, I'm guessing a 2000 or newer S8.
Someone recently said they think the facelift cars have a switch that locks out the A/C compressor at full throttle. That might be it.
