This will be my first time on this car. Does anyone know if I'll be needing any special tools to get the front rotors off? I mean like a hex bolt that holds the rotor on or something like that? I know there's PaulW's audipages, but it doesn't look like it shows the particulars for the removal of the front rotors on an S8. TIA...

Did lots of brakes on my A8 and it was a piece of cake. Haven't had to do my S8 yet, but I don't recall ever seeing any posts regarding special tools for the front rotors/pads. The rears are a different story.
God luck!

because i had to file the metal back plate on the pads so they would fit inside the top and bottom plates that are at an angle on my calipers. Turns out the caliper material underneath is gone (i believe it degraded by corrosion!):

To reduce the squeal i used Kleenflo disc brake quiet (http://www.kleenflo.com) which is doing a pretty good job of reducing the squeal. It is basicaly a glue of some sort to keep the pad from vibrating between the plates.
But it's true that all in all it is a fairly easy job if nothing is broken/seized.
Good luck!
