Default radar detector

another thing I have found is that on my 97 radar and cell phone don't work. I have read that some people have changed their windshields to 2000 windshields. mixed reviews.. I don't want to go out and spend $1000 on a new radar detector since this one I have is very new. Any ideas or should I just change the windsheild to a 2000 model?? thanks guys you have been great

Default It is highly rated by me, and many others. I finished installing it tonight, and it works great.

I will probably be lasered tomorrow on the NYS thruway. If so, I will let you guys know the outcome

Default How did the install go? Can it be done by a civilian?

I'm really curious how the cabling went thru the firewall.

Changing the windscreen is also expensive and you still won't have rear protection. If you install a V1 ( in a weatherproof box ) with the remote display under the hood , you will have front and side radar / laser view. I bought mine on ebay for $320. I will install mine in a next couple of weeks.

Default The V1 needs "line of site" to detect radar...

...It needs to have that litte black shiny panel on the front next to the **** facing rearward so that both receivers can detect signals.

"Under the hood" will probably be worse than through the glass for rear detection, but neither will work well.

Default Imho the '00 windscreen won't work either.

Many have problems with devices behind the windscreen, some have not. Why that is I don't really know, but it's expensive and no safe bet...

Better get a low mount antenna.

I've said it before, but IMO this is the best you can get radar wise (and much more). Best of it all: it's undetectable... ;-)

Cell phone may be due to the alu body. An external antenna would do the trick here as well. Maybe one of these combi phone-radio antennas from the facelift models? That's what's on the back of mine.
