RADAR DETECTORS
Just got pulled over for doing 86 in a 65mph zone by a New Jersey State Trooper who looked like he was about 15 yrs old. In any case, I would really appreciate any comments on the efficacy of radar detectors in general and any specific recommendations for an A8. Something that requires little/no installation would be awesome. Thanks in advance for your help/advice.

Do you have the UV coated glass?
Makes a difference on the recommendation from this list.
I use a V1 and do not have any problems. Some say the UV glass blocks the radar signal from being detected by a radar detector in the car.
Do a searce on V1 or Valentine 1 and check out the old posts on this topic.
If you do not have the UV glass then I would strongly recommmend the V1.

Valentine 1 or Escort 8500 are your best bet.....
Without starting a flame war, both are good, if you dont mind forking up an extra c-note, and like to see where the signal is coming from with a direction finder, then v1 is the way to go.
I personally own an Escort 8500 hard wired, the times I drive into NJ, it can sniff out ham (state police) or bacon (local police) no problem. It worked like a charm yesterday when I was in NJ.
One thing you do have to worry about is you will loose some effectiveness with that coated glass if you have that on your car.

Hard wiring is cake too
If ya need help the teach section can show ya how to hardwire the thing. Two or three good ways to do it. I personally stick to taking power off the 75x connector. (juice only flows when the car is on)

I own a 2000, get a V1 if you have winter only.
I think that the Summer package has the coated glass, if you have sun shades you have the summer package.
If not, you have the same set up as mine, winter only.
