vortex, bimmer roadfly etc) the general feeling is that the car will be a failure in the US. I agree with this. However, this is who I think will buy the car initially: TV & movie stars and other well known celebrities. People who don't need to show their wealth. It will be seen as the new item for them, the anti status status symbol. The "average" buyer of an A-8, S class, 7 series who may make $200,000 per year wants people to see their success (please dont flame, I'm not saying that's the sole reason people buy these cars, but it is certainly a factor). A $100,000 VW (a v-12 optioned out comes to 93k plus tax etc) won't do it. On the other hand, when Tom Hanks etc gets out of their Rolls, Maybach et al no one is looking at them saying "wow that person must be rich!" Thus, I think the "celebs" will be the biggest market initially as it is the newest thing out there. Anyone else agree with me?

That is exactly what has been happening in Europe for the last 10 years. For example people there remove their S, or M3 simbol off their cars so that they don't look like show offs. Here in the states people put big wheels and M3 on their BMW 325. I doubt that the governor of CA will trade in his Hummer for a Phaeton. People here simply like to show off.

It's heavy, it doesn't handle, its getting luke warm reviews, it's not selling in Europe, VW service sucks and lease rates will be poor too. But... It's quiet and attracive but these two factors will not overcome the financal aspect unless it discounted heavily (%20 or more).

Many younger rich people (or heavily in debt people...) do it the American way, putting M3 badges on their 316i, or even RS4 badges on their A4 1.6 sedan!
