Rear Seat Entertainment Project
I am curious to know if anyone else here in the US or on the Forum has one of these.

Recently I purchased what Audi calls the Office Packet Option out of an A8 in a salvage yard in Germany. The option consisted of a cooler box, a fax, an electric secretary's table, and an RSE (rear seat entertainment) console and was not avaiable on US market D2's. From 2001 on the RSE has been done with headrest monitors, but I wanted the console because it gets some more of the beautiful Vavona wood into my interior (I changed out the ugly,too-dark, Walnut burl a year ago). And I also think the console gives a bespoke look and feel to the interior.
My first priority has been to get the RSE refurbished and installed. First item was to replace the monitor screen and electronics because the Blauplunkt unit was the European PAL format. Found a 5" headrest monitor that ,when de-constructed, would fit into the frame/case box of the counsole. This RSE was a 2000 model so the new monitor was a significant upgrade from the old technology: 74K pixels vs 234K pixels, plus on screen udjustments via a remote.
I had a local shop mix a can of aerosol paint to match my car's trim color and painted over the Aqua colored vinyl that covered the sides of the console.
The cars these RSE units were fitted to also had RNS D Nav Plus units that had been modified to make it possible to diplay the nav screen map on the rear monitor when desired. I think that would be a nice little parlor trick with which to amuse my rear seat passengers...I'll let you know if I find out how to make it so.
I already have the Frankenfridge in my car so I'll need to decide which coolbox to keep and which to sell. Getting the secretary table operational and installed will be my next project though.
