I will receive my vag-com today and am anxious
to recode the transmission.
One thing I can't seem to locate in searching the forum is what i my expect from the change.
Is it primarily the fact that it will hold first gear longer, or is that the case with 2nd and 3rd gear as well? If you could be as specific as possible I would appreciate it.
Also has anyone recoded to unlock all 4 doors at once?
Any other clever ideas will be appreciated.
Thanks.
David

Sorry, kidding. What you'll get from various re-codes is explained in the link at the bottom of this post, but you have to remember that these are adaptive transmissions which secretly, like the federal government, monitor your driving style and taste in neckties and pornography.
Over time, if you're granny-ing it around town a lot, it will start to think of you (as only a computer can think of you) as a granny, and the tranny will go granny all up under yo fanny, Manny -- sorry, I've been listening to Mos Def this morning -- though not as far back as the original non-sport mode. You can reset this adaptation with the accelerator pedal method explained in your manual, or on this forum.
But the best cure is preventative: drive the starch out of your A8 at least twice a day. And if you do it while listening to Mos Def's "Fear Not of Man", you'll find it doubly cheerfulizing.

...I don't think there is a video on the web. I've never seen it. The song's available from iTunes, and it's on his "Black on Both Sides" album. I couldn't say that I'd email you an MP3 if you requested it, because that's illegal. In fact, I've written some software this morning to specifically prevent my computer from doing that. But I'm a terrible coder, so that might backfire. Either way, I don't think Mos will sweat it.
You can find the lyrics in the<ul><li><a href="http://brianbrownewalker.blogspot.com/2007/09/i-think-its-time-we-had-little-talk.html">gentleman's introduction to Mos Def.</a></li></ul>

It seems to me it's been a while since I fed the D2 tigers...

Yes, just finished '01 S8, exactly like working on '98 A8. With VAG-COM accewss the security code section about 2 screens into the menu and merely reset 5 digit code from whatever to 16200! This unlocks all doors at once and rolls windows down if wanted. Locks all at once and sounds horny and rolls up windows if wanted. Much nicer that old two step girly man unlockie.

Definitely a lot more fun to drive. I holds 1st gear to redline. I think it was coded to 00002. MPG deteriorated by about 1.5 mpg. But well worth it. I felt like I was driving an underpowered truck (0 to 60 in 20 seconds) before that. Anyway, you'll like it a lot better.
