Recoding from Valet key

i found this procedure off the audi tt site
How do I reprogram the remote control?
Q: How do I reprogram the remote control?
A: 1. Take the valet key, put it into the ignition and turn the key to the "on" position, just prior to starting the car.
2. Roll down the driver's side window (not required, but a good idea in case there's a problem).
3. Exit the car and close the door.
4. With a second key, physically lock the doors (don't use a remote).
5. Take the first remote to be programmed, press one of the buttons and the lights will flash once. Wait 10 seconds and press the unlock button. The doors should unlock. That first transmitter is now programmed.
6. Lock the door again (physically) with the key, (not the remote).
7. Press one of the buttons twice, the lights will flash twice. Wait 10 seconds and press the unlock button. The doors should unlock. The second transmitter is now programmed.
For a third transmitter press the button 3 times and for a fourth press 4 times.
Paul ads: "Make sure that to test the newly program remotes, the original key is removed from the ignition. Someone might be a bit frustrated trying to test it with it still in 'program' mode."
So
1) How can i check if my car has the remote locking?
2) Can i buy a switchblade from Ebay
3) get it cut (does it need to be agency cut...many other CHEAPER options availabe)
4) Can i recode with the above procedure?

You must first check that the transponder in the fob you purchase is compatable with that in your car [some have rolling codes and some have static]
that done you will then need to have the key programmed by an Audi dealer [who will surely charge] as a code is needed to enter that area of Vagcom and now days it seems even they dont know the code so they go on line with the car and Germany spits out a one use only code for them to reprogram the new fob.
Good luck

Check the techinal section for "extending the range" of a remote locker. There will be a photo of the receiver and its location-left inside of trunk. If you have the receiver you're half way home. Ebay is OK source for switch blade, buy a key uncut and any local dealer can cut new key to match. They may charge, but mine did N/C. Proceedure worked for my extra transmitter. Good luck. Even with all its problems I love my 98!

IR vs. RF: there are pro an against for both of them.
RF can have more functions, but it is easier to copy the signal by "bad guys" parking nearby;
IR has to be pointed at the exact receiver location and has shorter range which makes it difficult to copy by someone else, but from the other hand it is not so sophisticated.
So, you have to decide what is more important.
Anyway, it can be difficult to change the system. Maybe it would be easier to put the additional "alarm system" with RF functions, instead of VAG IR.

It doesn't have the RF control module, and unless you have a detailed wiring diagram of the two systems to do a comparison, I don't think it will be worth it.
When are you going to post pics of your S8???
So does it have the IR thing on the B pillar?
