Recycle Air - question

Hello All,
Since this is my first A8 I'm not sure if this is normal operation for the recycle air. When driving in traffic, I'll go to turn on the recycle air and sometimes it engages and sometimes it does not. Why? I figured it would work anytime. Do I need to have certain settings to make the recycle air work?
Thanks for your help!

I didn't have a chance to look it up, but there is a reason for this, probably something to do with people idling for a long time and high amounts of unburnt fuel.
Don't want any of us A8 owners to get "high" on the fumes. Maybe I'm completely wrong, but I know I read it before.

Hello,
You can use automatic recycle. The button on the climate control
with an 'A' and an arrow will activate that feature. When the HVAC
detects pollution, pollen, dust, dirt, etc. it will automatically switch
to recycle mode. When the pollution is gone it will switch back to
refresh mode.
Very clever.
BTW, if don't know when it was last done, you should change
the fresh air filters. There are two, located on the underside
of the hood, that are used to clean the air before it enters
the cabin. You are best off buying them from a mail order
place. They install in about two minutes.

I believe the reason that Recirc does not work in cold weather is due to the fact that the A/C will probably not be working and so the interior air will not be dehumidified. People put a lot of humidity out when we breath and if you have Recirc on, then the inside of your windows will fog up.
That is why manufacturers prefer to have fresh, dry air brought into the vehicle.
