Default Refilling coolant fixed my heat problem!!

Thanks to the guys who immediately picked up on my problem. My coolant was rediculously low and refilling it did get my heat back...but...where did it go? It took a full gallon of the 50/50 split. I looked all around the engine compartment, my garage floor and can't find a trace of it. I don't see any of the white residue under the overflow tank that might indicate a crack. I did have a slow drip (4 or 5 drops in the morning) near the driver side wheel in the fall but I had been monitoring that. As silverA8 asked, should I expect a problem elsewhere because of such low levels?

Do you have a head gasket problem? Coolant doesn't just disappear... Check under oil filler for sludge to indicate water in the oil (from head gasket failure).

Does the engine start on all eight cylinders in the morning? If not this may indicate head gasket failure to a bore.

Default The drips near the driver side firewall are the bleeder valve o-rings. Check Scott's writeup on..

audipages under the coolant expansion tank repair. You can get them at a hardware store. 2 min fix.

Default Sweet, monitor level, see if it changes over time

If it does, you have a leak and you'll have to find it.

You're lucky that it was winter and the heat went out to tip you off that you had low coolant.

I hate that stupid warning light on the dash, but it's there for a reason.

How do I know if all 8 cylinders are running? I just had it in to the mechanic for an oil change. I would hope that he would tell me if he saw a problem but he didnt mention anything.

Strange enough, I never got a warning light!!! The only indication was the heat stopping.

So you have to fix the warning light too.

A little lumpy/vibration at start up then on to all eight cylinders quite quickly.
If a mechanic looked at it, I'm sure he/she will have noticed anything like water in the oil.

More likely to be a leak then... Remember to check heater pipework aswell as engine compartment hoses. Soggy carpet etc.

Keep a close eye on the coolant level and temp guage!!!

Just went out to check my coolant and it is LOW again. I put another half gallon of mix in and hoping that it just needed to circulate through. I can't find evidence of a leak anywhere. Appears there may be a little residue behind the overflow tank on the quarter panel wall. Originally thought I had spilled a little. I might guess its coming out of the cover but I don't smell it. I looked at my oil stick and its not foamy/dark etc. so I really don't think its getting into the engine. Thermostat next????
