Remote programing help....
My 1997 A8 4.2Q has the old style key with seperate remote that works but is pretty chewed up so I bought a new style remote with intergrated key that I have to get recut on ebay. Has anyone ever programmed one of these? Is it even possible or do I have to have the dealer do it? Any help with knowledge about having the key recut would be appreciated also.
Thanks a lot,
Mike

As long as it has the right FCC #, you should be fine. And it is easy. See...
the link below from AudiPages. It literally took me 3 minutes to do.
Note: At the end of "page 1," where it says to press after 6 seconds, I was told by the dealer that you should press and HOLD for a bit.
Unless you've got a spare key in your pocket, be sure to roll down your driver's side window all the way just to be safe (because your physical key will be in the ignition when you lock the doors with the remote).

Remote coding from AudiPages.com

I tried this process, after locking the vehicle manualy with the second key and pressing the open button once I'm supposed to hear a horn. I get nothing. Not sure what to do next.

Are you sure the remote's battery is good? Right FCC #? Also...
I may be remembering incorrectly, but I thought I only got a light flash without the horn during programming.
Try going through the process again. Push the button once (look for flash), wait 6 seconds and press/hold the button for a little bit to see if that works.
