Default Removal of center muffler / Too loud? Not enough backpressure?

I'm thinking of replacing the rear muffler with a Supersprint and removing the center muffler completely.

I'm trying to achieve a more noticeable exhaust note without being as obnoxious as my 66 GTO was with Hedmans and Flowmasters! Don't really mind some interior noise intrusion while at speed. Usually cruising at 75 - 90 mph.

Thoughts, concerns, experience with similar setup?

An experienced shop could tune the note with resonating chambers, to your liking.

Default Here's a8drifters's comments about doing it the other way, ...

... keeping the center muffler but removing the one in the rear. Unfortuantely, the link to an audio clip is dead :-(

I think I recall a post (that I can't find) where someone tried what you're suggesting, but he did find the exhaust was too loud at cruising speeds. Then again, what sounds good is very subjective ... good to you may be bad to me (or visa versa).

Also, don't worry about backpressure ... lower is always better.

Exhaust sound

Default Mine sounds pretty much the same as Mr Drifters...

cruising is fine, at 70 I don't really hear it above road / wind noise. Around town at 1400 rpm in 2nd or 3rd it can sound a bit boomy inside. I'm thinking about getting a flowmaster or similar backend

clicky wicky

That was Sven, Randy ... he found that the center muffler was the major noise reducing component.

Default Thanks. What setup are you currently running?

Do you have the center removed?
