Default Repair log...Sure sign of mental illness (long)

Had some time to put together most of the service work my 1999 A8 has had over the past almost 7 years of ownership. Some service items are missing, but the major stuff is listed.

Lots of the work was done by various dealers, not because I don't have the skills, but I don't have the time. Sobering, but I still like this car. It is still solid and has only stranded me once. Like I said, a sure sign of mental illness...

(1) You're getting hosed on a lot of your service (must be stealership service?)

(2) some of those items shouldn't be incl. in cost of repairs, ex.: new wheels, body work, etc

Default Apparently both fairly deep pockets and a fairly high skill level are desiderata.

I have a 99'. You're making me nervous (LOL) and I have a decent job. I feel for the younger guys who buy one of these things thinking that they are cool without knowing what they are getting themselves into - take heed. Incidentally, my old Italian mechanic once told me never to add up one's repair bills. Now I know why. I suppose that shouldn't surprise anyone.

Default I don't think this list is typical of a 99.

But i do agree on a 2nd/3rd owner looking into a higher mile Audi......

Default Body work, tires and wheels, glass ... are not maint repairs

Also WOW your '99 A8 has a LOT of problems .. I must be very lucky or you are incredibly unlucky.

Only the standard, normal things break on my '99 A8 like oil seals and sending unit leakage. I'll say that you received an awesome price for the transmission tho. Grats and I hope it lasts you another 110K.

EDIT: OH SWEET JEBUS YOU WAITED TIL 115000 for the timing belt?

Oh my... Those ABS/speed sensors seem to have cost you over $5k over the years. I'd consider this more than absurd--$5k in ABS repairs?! 1/4th the cost of a brand new Accord? I guess this is how dealers make money.. (Don't fret, I'm a victim too..)

Default This is a poster child of why to stay away from Stealership...

Skwoods.. I would just say find somebody in your area who can help you and bribe them with beer. Its far cheaper than stealer Its likely fun too!

Default Yikes! I've replaced one sensor and my ABS electronics, and have maybe $300 in parts in it.

Did the work myself, of course.
