-if you wanna get technical-like
.
Actually, I bought my car at 134K and had no idea whether the timing belt had been done, but the serpentine belt had tons of little cracks, so I did it, figuring noone would change the timing belt and put an old serpentine belt back on. For the record, nothing looked that bad. In fact, the bearings were almost like new; even the water pump bearing. I was almost sad about the money I spent; but then it could have been done at 75K, in which case I was almost due again. C'est la vie.

I remember ordering a new door handle at my local dealership once.
Was never asked what color I needed prior to the "Service" guy ordering it (from germany).
Part arrives: Wrong color.
He ordered black instead of beige.
Sure, I should have been more specific, but I'M the customer with the open wallet. I proceed to ask him what he can do for me to fix this.
After thinking what lie he's going to spit at me, he tells me "I DON'T THINK the color you need is even available to order anyways" and has the audacity to suggest that I "get a can of vinyl paint" and spray it myself. He even suggests a place to buy this paint.
I didn't even know what to say to that. I'm pretty young, and what irks me the most is that I can't help but thinking my age has something to do with how they are treating me.
Try telling another customer you ordered the wrong part, and that the best solution you can offer is "to paint it"!!!
Anways, unbelieveable!

All DIY... Not including cheap (but quality) DIY maintainance like brakes and tires and oil changes and bulbs and plugs...
Front control arms and tie rod ends: $500.00
Oil cooler: $80.00
Headrests: (haven't done them yet, but it's about $0.00)
Heated steering wheel: ($10.00 for gloves :-D )
Replace antenna: $20.00
I've never seen a vehicle where there is such a huge disparity between DIY and professional servicing. They are more like houses than cars.
