Can anybody tell me if the self cancelling ring for the steering wheel (clock spring) part number is the same for an 01 S8 as an 03 S8?
Basically I need to cross reference my 01 S8 (sport steering wheel with tiptronic controls) with an 02/03 A8 multi function steering wheel with tiptronic controls or a 03 S8 which is multi function with tiptronic controls.
I have ETKA, but I am not good at finding info in it.
For those who don't know what a self cancelling ring is, here's a picture:

...cars that have 3 spoke wheels and cars that have 4 spoke wheels. However, there is a TON of part numbers for the cancel ring....I count 14 different part numbers! EDL or no EDL, ESP or no ESP, etc etc....there is ALSO a ton a VIN splits. It DOES make a distinction between multi-function and no multi-function though.
If you want me to dig a little deeper, I can, but it will have to be later tonight. Otherwise, look at ETKA ill.# 959-30.

Etka 7 lists one part number for the cancelling ring that can replace multiple other previous ones: 1J0 959 654 AL.
The notes in Etka state:
"When 1J0 959 654 AL is used in place of
1J0 959 654 AD/AE/AK/AM/K/Q then the
jumper wire for the return spring
to the steering wheel on the old part
is to be used."

I need the PR numbers and VIN # of the vehicle you are planning to get the parts from. If we use this website http://igorweb.org/equidec/ with the PR numbers and then by crossreferencing them to the ETKA part numbers we will figure out exactly what we need. Or if a fellow AUDIworlder who has this factory option, can give us his VIN# and his PR #'s we can still figure out the needed part numbers. Here are the PR Numbers from ETKA related to the slip ring.
1MR = leather steering wheel
1AH = electronic differential lock (EDL)
2C7 = safety steering column with electric axial and inclination adjustment
2PR = leather steering wheel, heated
2ZM = leather trimmed multi-function steering wheel
1AH = electronic differential lock (EDL)
2ZQ = leather trimmed multi-function steering wheel for airbag system
1AT = electronic stabilization program (ESP)
2ZP = leather trimmed sports steering wheel for airbag system with Tiptronic and "S"badge"
2ZD = heated leather trimmed multi-function steering wheel with Tiptronic
2ZS = leather trimmed multi-function steering wheel with Tiptronic
I suppose you want to modify your car to option 2ZQ or 2ZM, the question then becomes the VIN Number.
From VIN 4-DX-004-165>>4-D1-005-862 PR options 1AT and 2ZQ you get part number 1J0 959 654Q.
From VIN 4-DX-004-165>>4-D1-001-986 PR options 1AT and 2ZM you get part number 1J0 959 654Q.
From VIN 4-D1-005-863 >>4-D2-000-386 PR options 1AT and 2ZQ you get part number 1J0 959 654AG.
From VIN 4-D2-000-387>> PR option only 2ZQ you get part number 1J0 959 654AG.
Now if 1ZM has no airbag then the part # you need is 1J0 959 654AG. But again I can not be 100% sure. Please check the logic too![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Hope this helps
