Default Do a compression test since the TB was fixed?

that will show if theres a valve seating or other fundamental issue

Default That nick doesnt look good to me-the manual I have specifically warns against

turning with a screwdriver for that reason.
New valve was $1300 nzd -ouch.
See if you can borrow one from a forum member to try on your car.

Default ^^^ 2nd that. You can't change the idle rpm only the throttle bottom end damping.

I don't think the new TPS will change your idle. You have a vacuum leak somewhere or it is the ICV. I would also check the ICV and throttle body gasket for damage.

Default How do the cam sprockets slip free of that metal drive chain??

Sure the timing belt is off but wouldn't the drive chain hold the cams in sync?

Default as a novice mech. how would i be able to check compression? will VAGCOM do it?

as for the ICV, i dont get ANY idle control codes (I did for a day or two when i removed it and then replaced it...but that was before i had the TB/WP changed). I would like to try replacing the fuel filter as well as hunt for a vac leak (where do i start with those two?). IF either of those dont pan out (as they are both relatively easy to perform) then i will move on to ICV (damn nick *shakes fist in air) and then ultimately move to the prediction of a bent connecting rod on one of the cylinders. Please help in directing me to Fuel Filter and Vac test. thanks all.

Default VAG wont do it but...

You MIGHT get a code for the cam sensor but I'm not sure of it.

Default If you can change your plugs you can do a compression test

The compression test is the best way to gauge overall engine health short of dissasembly.

Rob Andrews Compression Test FAQ
