... and to the engine what's the difference? Either an intake air leak or a bad airflow sensor result in the engine getting more air than is measured. The service manual troubleshooting for "too lean" mixture codes involves checking for both, and probably other things too.
Oxygen sensors probably aren't at fault here becuase they don't work immediately after a cold start, and even if they did, ours aren't wideband so they don't provide useful feedback when the mixture's enriched for cold running.

i was thinking along the lines of bad air flow myself. i'm cleaning and re-oiling my k&n air filter. it was fairly dirty. hope that helps. thanks.
