Rough running 2000 A8

I just bought a 2000 A8 with 50000 miles and am experiencing a rough running, hesitation when the engone is warm and I transition from decelleration like coasting down a hill or slowing for traffic, to acceleration. It balks for a second or so. Another symptom is the kick down passing gear does not work at full throttle. In fact, there is very little change in performance from half throttle to full. I live in CA so the car runs on our lousy gas although it was a colorado car and eshibited these symptoms from the day I picked it up. Letely, I am detecting a slight rough spot taking off from a stop sign. Any ideas?

The best advice that anyone on this forum will give you is to change your transmission oil. If you dont take my word for it check old postings. I believe PaulW even posted a pictured procedure for it. Good luck!

Haven't tried it out on a 00 and newer.
A8-range rover-911 is getting the software this week I think and he has a 00, I'm sure he'll be playing with it.
Also, there is somebody in the Chicago area that just got a 00, I will be meeting with him in the next couple of weeks (has a 95.5 S6 avant with 300 HP, got to take that for a drive!) and will try to play with it to see if it takes other codes than the 00012, 00022 and 00032.
I would not be surprised at all if it takes 11, 21 or 31.
Hopefully I'll be at Grattan this year, and will plug into Randy's S8 to see what his coding is if he hasn't got the ross-tech software by then.

See the URL, bohb. I think I can say that those of us who have done the 00011 transmission recode on the 97-99 models, are loving it.
It won't fix the miss, but will certainly help the tranny-not-downshifting problem.
You owe Paul a nice dinner if you recode. Most of us do.<ul><li><a href="http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/auto_transmission/codingtransmission.html">Coding the A8 Transmission</a></li></ul>

I dont know so much about A8's yet but I'd check the plugs first for sure. and,
Yup thats me with the 00 A8 waiting on some s8 mirrors for a mighty PW possible/probable mirror install + 0011 code try. Or, may even finally hook up my own ross tech and see whats what. Check engine light stays on for some reason. Big problem? Seems to run great.
Bought the Accel Wty for the AW $1639 price 36 mo. / 36,000 mi.
S6 avant turbo BTW really really loves chgo's 20 degrees and provides alotta daily driver grins.
Cheers'

I've been told that if it's just "On", don't worry too much, but get it looked at.
On the other hand, if it's "On, and Flashing", pull over, call a flatbed, and haul it in, do not pass "Go", do not collect $200, do not drive it home / to the dealer.
It's the same on the wife's Boxster.
If you've got VAG-COM, hook it up and look around for an error code.

Although I currently have an A8 & A6, some time ago had an S6 with a similar problem. After checking compression, changing fuel filter, all plugs, wires and fuel injector on offending cylinder without success, turned out to be an intermittant coil short when engine was warm.
