Default to rs4 or not to rs4, that is the question

manual rather than auto
i like the extra power
i don't like the lack of room
i don't like the lack of parktronic
i don't like the brute force handling

but it is a lot of fun, and lordy, what an engine...

Default As a 2nd car?

If not, see your own list... I see one 'like' to three 'don't like'.

In an ideal world I'd love to have an RS4 as well. And the funds to keep it in top nick. Around these parts it's virtually impossible to find a good one. Many are tuned to the limit, and (very) costly problems are rather common I'm afraid.

A friend here asked the dealer if it were possible to find a good one. Dealer said he had 0.01% chance to find a healthy, accident free example with FASH and veryfied history. Most are dodgy imports with a cloudy past.

That may be different in the US, but keep in mind you want to know exactly what happened with a car like that.

If you find that healthy example, you need to ask yourself if it will be fun to drive in daily traffic. A manual turbo may not be such a hoot during rush hour...

Reasons for me to go for the S8. But would I want one as a 2nd car? Heck yeah...

Default 1 owner, 32k kms, pristine

i agree it is rare to find one in such good nick, but here in nz, rs4's were very expensive and so owners have tended to treat them well.

otoh, i haven't found 2 that drive the same.

one other positive, they have held their value very well, much better than the s8...

Default In that case...

You just have to figure out which car you like better in the long run.

The value holding may be nice if you own it, but as you still have to buy it, the price you have to pay will be an issue as well. Will it continue to hold value when new RS models are launched?

Anyway, all cars cost money, certainly in this segment. So imho the issue all boils down to investment vs. fun. Which car will give you most pleasure? what are you prepared to pay for that?

Sleep on it, and see what your fresh thoughts are about this, first thing in the morning. Usually, at that moment you are your own best advisor... ;-)
