Default S8 Brake Problems

Good news. I finally got my S8 back after spending February at HBL (Vienna, VA). Not necessarily a bad thing since it was off the road for some of the worst weather in D.C. history. It turns out that the problem was fraying of the wiring harness that goes from the brakes to the ABS black box. Apparently the ABS controls the stability management system as well and the fraying created a short which resulted in fault codes on both. The ABS required reprogramming due to the short from the fraying. The important take away is, this is apparently a known achilles heel with the A8/S8, this harness turns with the wheels and the back and forth motion causes a sort of metal fatigue not unlike bending a wire back and forth (which is essentially what is happening) The mistake the dealer made was having a green tech continue to work on it, when they brought in Wayne the senior tech, he diagnosed and solved the problem quickly.

Dave

Glad the problem was finally located and solved. Is the problem mileage related? (How many miles on yours?) Anyone seen this problem on their A8?

27,000. I guess if you only go straight, the wires will last longer.

Default I'll be in New Haven next week!

I represent Schulz Electric, I'll be staying downtown. For a small town New Haven is pretty fun!

Paul

I don't live in New Haven -- was just there to see a couple of my kids. One of them had a digital camera and "voila'! Do stay at the Omni, tho. There isn't much else in town worth staying at.

Wasn't Thurston Howell the Third a Yale man?

What Would Thurston Howell drive, anyway, if he drove himself?
