Default s8 brembos

are these derived from the f40 or f50 calliper? are they related to the porshce 996tt calliper, or the 993tt calliper?

are spares available from brembo, if so where?

anyone know?

thanks,
dave

Default Derived from the Brembo F40 ...

.
ahhh, make that 90% certain. It looks like the only difference between the F40 caliper and F50 caliper is piston size; 38/44 mm in the F40, and 40/44 mm in the F50. I've never seen definitive piston sizes for the S8 caliper.

Are you looking for a rebuild kit? It looks like you can order directly from Brembo, or perhaps they can steer you in the right direction.

Default Re: No, not derived from the Brembo F40 ...

excellent, thanks for the links, they clear up the issue.

on the basis of those i can say that the s8 brembo's are *neither* f40 or f50, but look closer to the f50.

piston diameter of the s8 brembos is 40.0 & 46.0mm, whereas the f40 is 38/44mm, and the f50 40/44mm.

the other thing that mitigates against the f40 is that the max disc diameter is stated as 332mm, whereas the s8 has 345mm rotors - more than the f40 limit but 10mm off the f50 limit of 355mm.

the f40 & f50 are clearly closely related with the same pad area, pad thickness, weight, fluid capacity & look. actually on the site you referenced, the same photo even...

Default I'm glad I didn't say 100% certain.

.
Where did you find the information on the S8 caliper piston diameter?

Default More Brembo calipers

.
The 20.5880.01/04, the F50 caliper, still seems to be the closest to the S8 caliper.

ProSystems Inc

Default Nope, not F50 either

measuring the callipers, they are 300mm, rather than the 295mm specified on the "pro-system" site referenced. that and the difference in piston sizes is conclusive that we're not looking at the f50, but some sort of derivative, imo.

the s8 calliper *is* of the "1b18" (aka 996 porsche) series though, as they have this stamped on the underside. this, along with the audi name and rings indicates a special case i suppose.

the mystery continues...
