Can't be percentage, has to be constant
The gearbox will obviously not steal various amounts of power depending on total engine power, right? So it has to be wrong using a percentage of total engine power. 36 HP *more* power loss compared to the manual box is impossible, the whole drivline will probably take less than 60 HP all togehter.
What I do believe is that an automatic represents up to 10% more power loss than a manual. But of course calculated from the amount of loss, not from the engine maximum output. So you *could* say that if a manual box "steals" 25 HP, the auto will steal 2,5 HP more. Not very scientific either, but closer to the truth.

As for the percentage loss from the drive train, I have seen it debated up and down, and I don't want to go into it again.
