... I don't agree with your closing comment.
BTW, if you're free this weekend, you're welcome to join us for the Quattro Club event at Grattan Raceway in Michigan and test the capabilities of your new 745. I've never driven at this track, but I'm glad to share the following set of a good driver's notes on the more interesting corners.
Turn 1:
This 120-degree and very fast (up to 100 mph) turn follows a straight where the faster cars can reach 150 mph. The track is quite bumpy in the braking area, and the run-off area (in front of the tire wall and dirt bank) at the entrance of the turn is non-existent.
Turn 3:
Immediately after the braking area the track drops off abruptly and then turns sharp left 130 degrees, leaving you sliding down the side of a hill. The entire corner is hidden by the drop-off, so braking and turn-in must be completed before you can see the corner.
Turn 5:
The braking area for this 80-degree right hander is very interesting because the faster cars become airborne just as you would like to start braking. Braking must begin either just before the crest, or after the car lands and begins to settle. ... Luckily, this is one of the safest areas to go off course.
Turn 10:
This 150-degree right hander is one of the most difficult to execute, and you are slowing from over 100 mph to less than 40 mph. The corner is slow, off-camber, downhill, decreasing radius, and has a blind apex just over a bump. Even worse, the track goes steeply uphill after the exit, making it very difficult to regain speed lost in the corner. And a swamp awaits the errant late-braker.
Turn 11:
The track crests and immediately turns 45 degrees right. Positioning and timing of turn-in is difficult because you cannot see the turn or any distinguishing markers until it is too late to react. The exit is very fast, leads very quickly to the flat out Turn 12, and onto the front straight. If Turn 11 is done well, you can be at full throttle from the exit of Turn 10 to the brake point for Turn 1, about 0.9 mile. A "screw-up" in Turn 11 will often result in a crash after the exit of Turn 12.
Doesn't this sound like fun? And you never know ... perhaps you'll even change your mind about how completely the 745 out does the S8 :-)

One Lap at Grattan

And go to the Roadfly Bimmer.org E65 7 Series board. Don't bother me if you like that ugly new 7. I will say that the interior of the new 7 is the nicest there is until the new A8. But the new 7s ugly exterior outweighs it's gorgeous interior. What a shame.
