Consider replaceing it with a 2000+, despite the modest cosmetic diffrences, the 2000+ A8's are a better car over all, especially wheen you factor the transmission time bomb on the pre-face lift cars.

I too had a mishap the day after I bought my car. It was on December 1st last year and I got caught in an ice storm. I managed to lose control of the car while taking a right turn going on a downward slope and smacked into a Chevy Malibu. The Chevy was fine, but I shattered my front bumper (d'oh). Yours is worse because it wasn't your fault. I'm happy your OK and I hope everything plays out well for you.

So if you bought it for $3k and it's valued (either Kelley Blue Book or Black Book) at $5k, you get $5k. Giggity, giggity, giggity!

The damage to the A8 isn't anything compared to her car. The Toyota's front end was buckled almost to the windshield. Good riddance. All her airbags deployed I think, but none of mine did. Considering how fast she was going, the Audi took it like a beast. The repair shop is waiting for the insurance company to get their act together before they start evaluating the damage seriously, but from the outside she splintered the rear bumper, bent the back axle and rim pretty bad, and that steel piece behind the bumper with the shocks attached to it was ripped out right at the welds. I don't think any other car would have taken that hit so well. I am truly impressed by the cars durability. I'll post pics and repair info soon I hope.

-from a fellow Canadian. Of course, we are not sure she's dead yet. Moreover, as Mr. Audikillsbmw states below - sometimes you are surprised by what they give you for the car in case of a write-off. Cross your fingers.
