secondary cooling fan on all the time

hi can has anyone any ideas why my seconday engine cooling an is constantly on even when i just start the car from cold thanks(i have a uk 4.2 quattro a8)

There is an electronic thermostat that monitors engine water temperature, and switches the electric fan on and off as needed. If this thermostat fails, then the fan could run continuously (or not at all, given the type of failure).

The wiring diags for the US cars show up to 3 speeds for the cooling fan and 3 relays J26, J101, J135 providing power. If one ofthem is stuck on your fan will run any time the ignition is on. According to the note they are located near the ABS control module or under the instrument panel above the pedal cluster.
