Default Shock Replacement

Hello boys. Think I need to replace shocks on my 99' A8 4,2Q. Car is jumping. At AUDI dealer says that shocks on my car takes about $1.500. Therefore I think about tuned shock from Bilstein. So questions: It is necessary to replace springs too? Is the Bilstein good choice? Where to buy set of bilstein with springs for a best price? Thanks!

Default Re: Shock Replacement

Do a search on Bilsteins (on this forum) and you will find many opinions. You can stick with the stock springs and your ride/handling will improve somewhat, but if you go with performance springs the car will handle much better/flatter although the ride will not be as smooth/soft. The springs will lower the car also. Most people here have gone with Eibachs. Bilsteins alone can be had for around $400 for the set of 4 (a few different online vendors like shox.com) It all depends on what type of ride you want. If you just want a nice subtle improvement over stock go with the Bilsteins alone. I wanted more of a performance look and feel so I went with some used H&R coilovers, but they are not installed yet. This topic has been widely discussed here; do a search and you will find a lot of info. Replacing the stock Boges at the dealer would be a huge waste of money in my opinion.
