Skreeeeeeeeeeeeech sound...what is it?

This sound emanates from the front of the car best I can tell, near the brake/wheel area while moving. It's a clean skreeeech, fairly high pitched. It changes tone when the brakes are applied and completely goes away when the car slows to under say 5mph and when stopped. It's not a crunching sound, it's very clean and high pitched.
No problem indication lights are coming up. Comes up "ok".
Ideas, the car is covered under warranty still, but I'd like to get an idea of how serious/time sensative this might be.
Thanks!

Everytime I've heard someone describing that on an A8/S8 was because the transmission fluid was way past due to be changed. Even though Audi says it has "lifetime fluid" in it, it really needs to be changed every 40,000 miles along with the trans filter. Make sure you ONLY used Audi's approved transfluid which I buy from Int'l Auto Parts online for $13.82 per liter. Paul W. also has a procedure online at audipages.com on how to change the fluid. Now all of this info applies to the D2 body A8/S8, but it looks like you have a D3 A8? IE: newer body style. Someone else on here might be able to tell you if my advice applies to your car. Good luck! ![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

slight brake petal pressure? Not sure if I described it accurately, even slight pressure of the brake petal and the sound changes pitch, which sounds like brakes but I don't have an idicator light on and I would think if it was the pad sensor it might get louder as I brake. I'm no expert to be sure, just random thoughts here.

My bad. I must've skipped the part where you mentioned it happened only on the application of the brakes. It'll probably go away on it's own like in a few days or a week -- there could be some dust or something in/near the caliper.

If it's been a lot of miles, you may have a hard spot on a pad or perhaps some contamination on one of the rotors. Should take care of it when next brake pad replacement is due.
