Default So Audi finally got to my car yesterday. $1900 to fix for a Headgasket..(AGAIN)

When i was in Chicago i made sure when we pulled the tranny i looked all around the engine for ANY oil leaks and there was nothing. For the first time in the A8's life it was dry. Then i told the dealership that i had them replace it 18 months ago! They changed their mind and said it was the valve cover gasket now. So i pulled the car and found a mechanic that is willing to tackle the disaster area of A8 oil leaks.
While i was at the dealership they did a FJ Recall fix. Did we have any recalls in the last 18months? or are they trying to get some more cash from Audi USA?

Default almost 2k for a headgasket ... wow ....

my bet is on the valve cover gaskets. They are a known problem. If it does happen to be the headgaskets again, make sure you have the heads and block checked to see if something is warped. Very rare, but could pose a problem. My head gaskets started leaking at 80k and were done under audi CPO. Have not had a problem since ..... well at least not oil leaking

Default Whats the FJ recall?

I found a guy willing to do the valve cover gaskets for $180. I think I'm going to try to do it myself. The audipages procedure seems pretty straightforward.

Be real careful with those fuel lines! I disturbed them and had to cut off the ends and install hose clamps!

Definitely change the plugs if you might need to at all. It is so easy to do when you're in there already with everything apart.

Pay close attention to the silicone sealer on the sharp corners, and I think it is also a good idea not to drive the car for at least overnight to let the silicone sealer actually harden.

It is an easy job, but it gave me a hell of a sore back. Not a good job for a tall person if you ask me. Shop for the gaskets-- they can be bought for $26 ea. If you want I can look at where I bought them-- I've forgotten but I think Autohaus.

Default Every time I read a post like yours, I know that I am in the wrong business.

I changed a head gasket and the valves in my wife's Audi a few months ago 3 hours job and $250 for parts.

Default Thanks for the support guys, but this ones personal.

I think its time put a hold on the other 3 door switches. I highly doubt that its the head gasket. I looked again and everything abode the head gasket is wet also. Im going to go with the face that i didnt replace the 3rd cam seal in the rear and the valve cover gaskets. Those i can tackle without any problem.
