So you think our transmission woes are mostly limited to pre-facelift D2s?

Makes you wish a swap to a manual box was a bit easier. Sad that you have to think that way with a top model luxury car - not really in keeping with the nature of the beast - particularly in the urban jungle where a manual is a bit annoying in traffic.

why do the 97-99 models SUCK and the post 99 have very few problems? Is it possible to put a 00+ tranny in a 97-99? wouldnt that be the ultimate solution to our Tranny probs?

Aren't the rebuilt transmissions supposed to have all of the updates/patches/fixes added? I wouldn't mind a new survey of people w/rebuilt transmissions.

... and several more changes earlier, in 1997.
In the 1999 valve body change, a fluid drain hole went away (per photos from Tozo) and an internal valve was added. It possibly lines up with converter clutch control valves, so just might have something to do with hunting.
But there is also evidence that the post facelift TCM programming works around less than ideal hydraulic/mechanical reactions from the transmission. For instance, once in a while my '01 disconnects the converter clutch on trailing throttle when it should enter controlled slip. If this is the trailing throttle "drop out" that affects some pre-facelift cars, the pre-facelift reaction would be the "thump" of re-engagement, but the post-facelift TCM doesn't play along -- it just leaves the clutch unlocked.
