My "new" 2000 A8L 4.2
1. How can I permanently disable the annoying park assist? I can turn it off via the dashboard button but that only works till the next time i stop.
2. Heated steering wheel doesn't work. Is there a fuse or is it toasted? Anyone have a used one that works?
3. I read where the cam tensioner/chain ticking/clacking is normal on cold starts. If this stops clicking within 10-15 seconds is it anything to worry about?
4. Will a visor from an A6 with homelink fit the A8? Why was homelink an option when this car has so many next-to-useless gadgets like auto headrest adjustment and rear sunshade?
5. Is the occasional, ABS light,(accompanied by the ESP light) the same usual problem on most Audis and needs the ABS control replaced or repaired?
6. Is there any way to program the Nav System with a text (cell phone of other) keyboard instead of the ridiculous hunt and peck by turning the **** text entry?

1. Unplug module in trunk underneath nav cd rom and cd changer or remove red w/black wire from module.
2.fuse #2 (10amp) second row (red row) fuse panel, passengers footwell right.
3. Shouldn't rattle, but they all do eventually on cold start...failure of little locking pin inside adjuster, that's supposed to prevent it. Oil pressure tightens tensioner...should go away in a few seconds...10-15 sec is a little longer than average. Does no immediate damage..if tensioner is bad, it should throw a timing or tensioner code.
4. ??
5. More common on VW's and down the line Audi's..not as common on A8's. Often is NOT the module, but dirty or failed ABS sensors on the wheels. A lot of other related components (brake pedal switch, etc) can trigger the lights too...only a Vagcom reading will isolate it, if it's not simply dirty sensors...easy to remove and clean...most common cause. Electrical part of ABS hydraulic unit can be tested and repaired by modulemaster if that's the problem. Audi dealer will only change entire unit at huge $$. The hydraulic unit itself is NEVER the problem.

1 - Dunno
2 - The wheels generally fail at some point but you might as well check the fuse.
3 - IMO, yes
4 - No idea if an A6 visor fits. Why not get an A8 visor with Homelink?
5 - This is usually a bad connection to a wheel sensor.
6 - Heh, good luck with that. Some people upgrade the nav, IMO the stock D2 system is too primitive to bother with and if I had it in my car I'd just use my phone instead.

Go to www.car-part.com. For the search item look under interior, misc. There are several sets listed on the 3rd or 4th page.

Thanks, I had looked on Car parts for a visor but didn't know they were hidden in the {int, misc). No tan ones but I'll call a couple of the yards listed and see if they have my color.
