Default Sorry - ATF Question

I tried not to ask this question (by searching all that has been written on this already), but since I am going to do the fluid / filter change this week, I have to know for sure.
What I gather is that the Audi Atf fluid, while expensive, is the best choice. There are others, Pentosin, Mobil 1, etc., but the consensus I get is that using the Audi fluid is the safest bet.
Thanks,
Paul

Default Don't be Sorry, use the Audi ATF!

Don't risk anything else. These transmissions are mucho expensive, why take the risk to save a few bucks on fluid. (The Audi fluid also has magical properties, so I'm told :-)

Welcome here!

Default Yep, in 30k miles it magically changes ...

into tree sap. You're right, we're afraid to deviate from the Audi/ZF recommendation and put our tranny's at risk, but there has to be a better ATF available than this gunk.

Looks awful! Is there a way to install an external filter or maybe a sight glass?

Default It'll be interesting to see ...

what happens to D3 tranny's and ATF once significant numbers of them start exceeding 30k miles.

Default It is strage how AUDI says on the ATF container the the life of the fluid is 3 or 4 years....

.... if sotred properly. That means that it is not life time even if you are not using it.

Default That's amazing ...

I guess you need to carry in a bottle of Audi ATF to show those dealers that are still insisting it's a lifetime fluid.
