Steering wheel burned out tonight...

I was driving home this evening, only to find my hand burning and the smell of imminent electrical fire. I looked at my wheel to find a small pin-like hole where the smoke came billowing out. I turned off the heat at the switch and turned it back on to see what was up. If I press on or near the hole, I can see the sparks.
has anyone else ever experienced this phenomenon? I am sure it's warranteed, but can't stand the hassle with the dealer. Any suggestions?

When you do this, it energizes the heated steering wheel. It sure sounds like your temperature sensing circuit went bad and it kept it energized.
It is suppose to heat it up to 90 F, then turn off and keep it at 70 F if the ambient temperature is less than 70 F.
The power is turned on by the driver's side seat heater.
Don't use it again until you get a new wheel. Something is very wrong and the sensing circuit went bad, the heating element is cooking the wheel.
