So after reviewing my Nav Plus system, I ran into another problem last night.
All the 00 and newer cars have the B pillar speaker (that little round thing just to the left of your left hip on the pillar between the front and rear door) powered from the radio.
The 00 and newer cars send the voice signal to the radio from the factory phone (and Navigation voice if your car is equipped with Navigation), then it sends it to the speaker.
On the 97-99 cars, it is wired to the DB-25 phone connector in the trunk. The 97-99's just run the output from the Motorola unit in the trunk to the speaker. This is how I have my Motorola V60 hands free brain box sending the signal to the speaker.
So becasue the Nav Plus has it's own Tel + and Tel - output (which is the sexy British voice that tells you where to go and what turn is next), I need to hook both of them up to the B pillar speaker in order for them to work.
Right now I have only the hands free system hooked up.
My question is, if I hook them up in parallel as shown in the picture below, will the diodes block the amplifer signal from the other unit that drives the speaker?
When the phone rings, it will automatically mute the Nav system and radio, so it won't send a signal at the same time as the Nav unit. Once I'm done with the call, it unmutes it and turns the Nav back on.

My Question is: Does the output of the amps to the speakers only contain a DC voltage that is zero to some positive voltage? Or does it ever supply a voltage that is negative? If it's only positive, it would work, if negative also, it wouldn't work.
Your thoughts?
Thanks.

I believe only positive. The magnets in the speaker should not/can not work off of a negative voltage. Speakers CAN work in an inverse manner though. Switching the input leads to a speaker causes the cone to vibrate in the exact inverse manner of which it would with normal polarity.

paul, the output of any amp to a speaker is an AC signal, = + and - voltage. a diode will act as a rectifier, in that it changes AC to DC. don't think it will work with the diodes.

The A6's use a DVC speaker in the driver door in order to perform both radio and phone utilization... what size do you need.. i can probably find one for you..
This way you have 2 completley different + and - but same speaker.
Also why dont you just get another speaker and mount it under the seat?

I want to just use the speaker in the B pillar, that would solve all my problems. I will have to measure and get back to you.
Thanks Jack!

I followed your directions (I think it was you) for integrating the handfree phone in my 2000.
When I'm on handsfree, and the nav is on, you hear the caller AND the nav voice at the same time. The phone volume drops a little so you can hear the nav instructions easier. The caller can hear it as well. So, I don't think you need to do anything. Seems to handle both just fine and after a couple of times doesn't seem normal to me. Hope that helps.

Thanks, the only problem is that on your car, both signals are sent to the radio and the radio is the amp for the speaker.
My setup woul have two amps in parallel, but I'm just going to find one of those two circuit speakers Jack talked about.
I'm also buying a climate control unit from an 00 from a guy in Germany...has a bunch of them. Sending him 100 euros for it. For that price, it's worth trying.
