Default still having the pproblem

so i went and bought new sparks and 2 new coil packs. my mechanic checked it out and changed it out and its still showing a misfire on 1 and 5 cyl. he kept scanning and sometimes it would go away but then would come back he also said it would say random misfire. he checked the injectors and they see to work fine. so i am still havin the shaking issue and i dont knoow what else to do. can anyone sugest anything else that i can do. could it be that wiring or what oh and he called his friend thats a mechanic and his friend is also having the same problem. so iam pretty much stuck in this situation can anyone help me out.

Default Power output stages, swap them out

There are two of them, where the wires that go to the injectors under the air box. Two black things that fire injectors.

Swap them out and see if your problem switches cylinders.

Or do a search here for "power output stage"

Good luck. If you have more than one cylinder having a problem, I doubt it's coil packs. Hopefully it's your power output stage.

Default Could also be O2 sensors.

I had the same symptoms a week ago and luckily a new coil pack on #3 solved it.

Default POS is a good start. was your timing belt done recently? If so, its probably out of time.

do a search for my name and read my saga. Im guessing you are suffering some of the same issues i was. We all hope its not a Timing Belt redo like i suffered. Good luck...keep us posted

Default Here

They are under the cover just aft of the air intake box. Remove the air intake piping and you can pivot the black plastic cover up by removing a screw or two (the one that goes around the blue cap).

You'll see wiring under there, look where it goes and you'll find two black boxes about 4 or 5" square that have wires going into them (from ECU) and wires going out of them (to coil packs). They amplify the ECU signal and make it a 12 VDC usable signal for the coil pack.

Swap the two of them and see if the mis firing cyliders shift. If they do, that's your problem.

I've posted pictures of the schematics before.

Default i was just getting misfire codes and that was it. nothing else. You might want to check your...

timing as well as your compression on both banks. I was low on compression by 30% on bank 2. this was all due to a poorly installed timing belt. not saying that is your problem yet, but definitely keep that in mind if new plugs, coils and POS's dont fix your problem. at least have someone with VAGCOM look at your compression and timing.

Default POS = POWER OUTPUT STAGE or Spark Control Module that piece Paul W was describing

they are under the plastic cover up behind the air box/intake pipe mentioned in Paul's post. disconnect them and switch them and see if your misfires move to the other bank. if so, you have a POS (piece of sh*t) POS! hahah. i made a funny.
