Default Strange behavior on RPM and Tranny. Scary!!

97 A8 w 135k mi. I was driving back home the speed will not reduce even the accelerator pedal was off and RPM just going up. Seems tranny was shifting radically too. I came to stop sign and tranny down shifted itself while depressing the acc pedal.
Finally,I stopped the car and put the gear in nutral, the rpm when sky rocketing I had to shut the car off. Started again and it was ideling in fluctuation....
This is scary. What could possibly affecting this symptom??
My tranny was replaced at 109k and tune up(plugs and fuel filter) done.

The only thing i can see is the accelerator boot on top of the engine getting stuck or frozen.

Todays high 5 low -1

Maybe I should give sufficient time (10-15minutes) to warm up the car before I drive!

It seemed that accelerator pedal was kind of wierd when applying pressure to it. But also the tranny was acting up it was just shifting by itself shen stopped. Maybe this is all related?

Default It's temperature related

Do you park your car outside or in the garage? I would bet outside.

If you look through all the forums here, as usualy, you will see A LOT of posts of problems when the ambient temperature drops to 0 F or below.

Not hard to believe.....it would be hard to engineer something that has to work in such a high range of temps with no problems.

Default I friend of mine had this problem back in the 80' in Europe.

It was a squirrel stuck between the trodle body and the top cover. He was looking for a warm place and get stuck. He said, it was hard to press the pedal and it did not come back.

Default I wish we could log block.... I think it's 008? from Engine in VAG-COM....

it will log what the ECU thinks the throttle position is and what it thinks the engine load is.

Default Oh my gosh is "unintended acceleration" returning...this would get Audi's

attention...it almost destroyed them in the US in the late 80's.
