<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/86495/33tdi.t.jpg"></center><p>Hello
After servicing my A8 3.3 TDI 2001 at 125.000 kms by Audi garage for change the distribution belt.
They reset me the service light.
So, in January, the service was OK for 15.000 kms.
Today, after only 4000 or 5000 kms, is see the text 'Service in 400 kms'. I drive again and the message 'Service in 300 kms coming'.
Have you an idea about this ???
I will ask at a friend of me the tool Vag Com to see more, but if you can light me, you will be very help.
Thanks a lot, sorry for my awful English language, but I am best in french.
Kinds regards.
Yves, from France.

Using vag-com, you go to instrument cluster (module 17) then to "adaptation" then to channel 2 and change it from "1" to "0" and you will be all set.

If you saw "Service in 15000 km" in January, but now "Service in 300 kms" after driving 5000 km, why did it change?
Starting in 2000, the instrument cluster (for a US gasoline car at least) has these settings:
- minimum distance between service
- maximum distance between service
- maximum time between service
- oil quality
The instrument cluster also has a sensor for oil temperature.
So it could be possible, if your minimum distance is 5000 km, that the cluster recommends early service if the engine oil gets very hot for a long time, or if the car makes many short trips without warming up. This is only a guess -- in the US, Audi sets the minimum and maximum distance to the same value, and I have not seen the service manual for a TDI.
I like cars made at the Quai de Javel and engineered by André Lefèbvre, who was very intelligent.

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/86495/33tdi.t.jpg"></center><p>Hey Tom,
About Mr André Lefevre, i have no car but I like old them. For example, I have a Simca Aronde 1962, only 11.000 kms(7.000 miles).
Very nice, speed maxi = 80 mph... no security belt and no ABS, but it's wonderful to drive far from the towns, on little campaign roads.
If you want some photos email me yves.parent@9online.fr
And about my service light, no small trips ; only speedway in normal use...
Now, the light is on, just 5100 kms after the service !
I see that whith more details this week with VAG COM.
Thanks , have a good day.
And excuse again my language...
Yves.

If your instrument cluster is like that in the US, here are some things you can check with VAG-COM. Be careful -- your car may be different.
Display group 12, field 2: distance since service / 100
Display group 12, field 4: days since service
Display group 13, field 2: minimum distance between service / 1000
Display group 13, field 4: maximum distance between service / 1000
Display group 14, field 2: maximum days between service
Display group 15, field 2: oil quality (1-4, I don't know what it means)
Display group 50, field 3: oil temperature C
For changes, some adaptation channels are:
02: Write 00000 here to reset the service indicator
40: Distance since service / 100
41: Days since service
42: Minimum distance between service / 1000
43: Maximum distance between service / 1000
44: Maximum days between service
45: Oil quality
Good luck. I hope you find a good explanation.

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/86495/33tdi.t.jpg"></center><p>Hey Tom ,
There is some information from my car
instrumentation(17)
adaptation (10)
channel 1 - Reset ServRemInd - Value = 1 !!!
channel 40 - Insp in 1 - value = 52 (x 100)in km !
and more strange again :
channel 42 - Oil in 1, min value = 15 (x100)in Km
channel 43 - Oil in 1, max value = 5 (x100) in Km
It seems that Audi did not make the best values at the goods places , THANKS !!!!
In fact, here on my "european" 3.3 TDI the values are not on the same channels than yours, but it's not to difficult to find them with this magic tool VAG COM.
Best regards from France

Channel 40 makes sense if it counts distance after service (like the US service manual says) -- you have driven about 5200 km since the service, yes? The "Insp in 1" label for channel 40 comes from a VAG-COM label file, not the computer in the car. So the "Insp in 1" label is not 100% guaranteed to be accurate, though VAG-COM labels usually are accurate.
Yes, the min = 15000 km, max = 5000 km is strange!
