Default Suspension: difference in "spring buffer-blocks" ?

Bonjour from across the big and very wet pond,

I noticed three types of rear-suspension "upper spring buffer blocks". The nr. 15 in the picture.

Does anybody know what the difference is between the normal version and that "sport-type running gear version" and the "extended wheelbased" version.

I would assume that the normal version is for the A8, the extended wheelbase is the A8L and the sport-type is for the S8 but what is the difference ?

Would lowered A8's benefit from installing that "sport" version ?

Default What is the function of a spring buffer block?

Am I correct in assuming that it limits spring travel?

It holds the spring. That's all.

That is only true for the pre-facelift. The facelift model has three upper-types for A8, A8L and S8.

Default Thanks. Can I have a follow-up question?

What limits the spring/suspension travel on the front suspension? Is there a bumper in the shock assembly? Perhaps you have a nice exploded diagram of the front end.

Default The nr. 33 block limits the travel of the front damper. See the picture inside.

Default Can this part fail - so to speak?

I have a little trouble with my A8. On the top of the upper control arm #22, I believe, is a rubber cap of sorts. On occassion it has come right up and hit the underside of the cowl and has left a bump that is visible from the top side under the plastic cover. In other words, the suspension is travelling too far. Now, does this little beauty of a part have a part #, because I would like to replace it when I do my shocks. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. bedankt.

Default mkurak, you can look up the part numbers on

audipages.com. PaulW has an A8/S8 Parts List for reference. This is what I use for part numbers.
By the way, the front suspension diagram is on page 8 on the lower right corner, and the part numbers are on page 9 upper left corner. I hope this helps!
