Synthetic oil weight for 03 A8l

I recently had my dealer change the oil on my 03 A8L. I had only 1500 miles but I am from the old school and adhere to the early oil change theory for a new engine. My dealer used Mobil-1 15-50W.
Is that the correct weight?
TIA,

I use to use 15W-50 on my 91 200q for summer use (red cap) and go to the green cap (10W-30?) for winter use.
Now I took Randy's suggestion and went to 0W-30 for the winter use. My car started no problem all winter long!
Check your owner's manual.

.
I believe that 15w-50 is too heavy for a low mileage Audi motor, especially if it never sees severe service (i.e. on track). It may be a bit much even then, with 100k miles on the motor, and if you lived in Texas.
I use 0w-40 all year, but any of the 30 multi-weights should be fine in your case.<ul><li><a href="http://www.mobil1.com/products/trisynth/index.jsp">Mobil 1 motor oils</a></li></ul>

I would go back to the dealer and ask for a replacement to 0W30 or 5W30 for winter use. In the hotter months, go up to a 5W30 or 10W30 synthetic. The best rule of thumb is to use the narrowest weight range oil that will cover the temperature extremes you expect to see before the next oil change. The wider the viscosity range, the more viscosity enhancers added to the oil, and the more potential "gunk" that can plate out of the oil. The dealer had no business putting the 15W50 in your car at this time of the year.

See my post above but the bottom line is that synthetic oils are created with the base oil having the multi weight characteristic built in. Conventional oils use a base oil that is lighter then the cold viscosity rating and then add VIs to get the high temperature rating. The VIs do break down fairly quickly. I did a test many years ago with Castrol GTX, Mobil One and some generic 10-40 oil. The Castrol GTX showed significant hot viscosity loss at about 1500 miles, the generic oil lasted to about 1000 miles and the Mobil One showed no loss in hot viscosity at 10,000 miles. I stopped the test at 10,000 miles because I wasn't willing to keep the oil in my car longer then that.
