After 9 long months out of the fold and driving a 4Runner I'm ready to come back, even begging to..... I was debating an Allroad but after driving several I can't seem to come to grips with the suspension.... An S6 is an option but I've alwayhs dreamed of an S8 since it came out....
Randy or others - any insight as to what ot look for as I start to sort thru my options. I will be looking at CPO cars with less then 40k ...
Thanks in advance -

The audipages Used A8/S8 Buyer's Guide. Beyond that, and since an S8 has probably had it's motor revved to redline more often than the typical A8, I wouldn't buy a used S8 that hasn't had all routine maintenance done on schedule, especially oil changes with a synthetic oil. Properly maintained, the motor is near bullet-proof; if not, it becomes an oil burner (which seems almost common in Europe, but not the U.S.).
At nearly 60k miles, I think the most serious problem I've had has been the typical transmission output shaft seal leak, easily repaired under warranty.

I spent the better part of a year trying to figure out what I wanted and find it. They're starting to come up more often now however. The deciding factors for me between '02 and '03 were:
1) Wheel differences - I prefer the updated look on the '03, but to each his own
2) Interior trim differences - I wood found the trim on the '02's to be very dull and almost grey. The Avus Silver '03's came with that same trip. However the Ming Blue and Black came with what I considered much nicer and a warmer looking "closer" to real wood look.
3) Potentially more time left on the CPO warranty. I'd recommend CPO, I've already collected on mine (cost $1400) between 50,000 and 56,000 miles. Will surely be way ahead of the game by 100,000. These things are expensive no doubt about it.
Best of luck, I wouldn't consider trading mine for anything else (except another with lower miles) I love it.
Let us know what you do
