timing light?

timing light?
I have a DTC 17800 - camshaft position sensor bank 2 open / short to B+
A little research suggests that this may be due to a mistake installing the timing belt, leaving the cam/crank timing improperly synchronized.
I'd like to check that timing without pulling off the front of the engine and the valve covers.
Obviously, a standard inductive timing light won't work.
Does anyone have any experience / suggestions for me?

take off...
Set the engine to 0 degrees, or TDC. Remove the valve covers. Removing the valve covers is quick and easy. There are dimples on the cam gears that should line up exactly when the engine is at TDC. If they dont your cams are off. My driver side cam was off by one tooth and my car logged no codes despite a rough idle.
