I know there is a great write ups on how to install Tiptronics on 97, but realistically, how hard is it to install these for a person without any electronic or mechanical aptitude?
I am going to pursue with purchasing Tip unit and wanted to knmow first.
Thanks.

In my opinion it is not extremely hard, but it is risky. you can really jack up some things if you don't do it right. I would not recommend it for a first timer or if you don't know anything about electronics. If you are in Chicagoland, there are a lot of us that have done this conversion and would probably help you. Just my $.02

I was in your shoes a few months ago and decided to give it a shot. I really knew nothing about soldering or electronics, but learned fast. I posted a whole bunch of stuff, including pictures. That together with PaulW's instructions on Audipages should get your where you need to be. Make sure you have a friend at least who knows something about soldering. You also need to be pretty comfortable dissassembling the center console (not an easy task).
This is definitely not an easy upgrade for the novice (and i'm definitely a novice). You can expect to spend at least two full weekends, unless you find someone nearby who has done it before. At this point, I could do it in half a day. The risk is in screwing things up, and I can tell you that your local audi dealer isn't going to want to put the pieces back together for you. I took a chance and it definitely paid off. I can't imagine this car without triptronic at this point.
