Hey folks,
Slight change in topic from the recent posts on expectations and deliveries of the new D3's (you lucky guys...). I have an '03 A8L, and am absolutely having a blast with it--how do you folks tend to use your Tip transmission? IE:
- when downshifting, do you blip throttle or let it do it's own thing?
- do you let it rev in gear, ie keep it in third or second around town, with rev's above 3000?
- do you keep your foot in it during upshifts, or let off while the tranny shifts?
Also, I have not yet been able to locate someone in Ottawa, Ontario Canada who can re-program my Tip to hold first gear--anyone on the forum reside nearby with Ross-tech? Until I can find someone, I'll shift back into 1st after the auto-shift to 2nd...it seems to work well.
Thanks in advance for any input--I want to make the most out of this driving experience!!

Don't bother to blip.

It's up to you, you will just use more gas in the higher RPM's

Keep your foot in it. The computer automatically kills the gas for the shifting. It's still just a normal automatic like 2turbos stated. HTH.

blipping the throttle during a downshift or lifting during upshifts.
When in Tip mode, I'll downshift under braking unless I'm coming to a complete stop, when I'll let the tranny downshift to 1st on it's own. If I want to accelerate at full thottle, I'll also let the tranny handle the upshifts. Around town, I guess I probably do stay below 4th, but I don't really look at the revs ... whatever feels comfortable.

`Bliping the throttle under downshifts should only benefits rear wheel drive vehicles under hard braking and cornering at the same time. The reason that racers blip the throttle is not to unsettle the suspension while you are in mid-corner and trail braking to the apex. Since most Audis are quattro, no benefit to bliping the throttle.

Thanks for the offer--I'll take you up on it if and when I'm down there. I hear it makes a big difference in the "fun factor" of the drive. Until then, I guess I'll have to "suffer"
