Default Tire Advice?

I blew a tire last night, it cannot be repaired. The set of tire has about 10,000 miles on them, good looking tread. These are Mich Pilot HX MXM4 245/45r18's, $280ea, and of course nobody has them in stock. One shop says I can just replace 1 given the wear, another shop says I ned to replace all 4.

What do you guys think?

No Match. I was preparing to put the spare on when I noticed it was a different size. Now I have a 3-wheeled car.

Default replace 1 and start it on the back. if one has to replace 4 Pilot's when

one goes bad, my opinion of Pilots would be dramatically changed.

Default They may say you need all four because of the quattro

(or maybe they just want your $$$) - dunno. Since your spare's a different size, maybe you could buy two new ones and use one of the old ones as your spare (assuming it'll fit on your spare wheel).

generally audi says you should replace a set (front or rear) at a time, but not all 4

Default Depends onthe amount of tread left

You need to measure the tread depth of the remainng tires. If the tread depths are within about 25% of a new one, I would not worry about just replacing one. Any larger differance and you tske the risk of damaging your transfere case. My shop had to purchase a transfere case for a Jeep Grand Cherokee AWD about five years ago because we only changed two tires on the vehicle. It was a $1500 experiece for our shop.
