Tire balancing nightmare
I had my tires balanced 4 months ago and the car still didnt feel 100. I noticed vibrations still. Yesterday I went to a NTB to have them double checked. They said the balance was off and they added the weights to the opposite side of the wheel and heavy weights, the car is now worse than before with vibrations going into the seat. What could be going on.
I am going to remove the wheels and put them on by hand. I saw on Motorweek where if you put the wheel on the vehicle and use an impact gun to install the lug nuts, the fist one is tightend too much and can throw off the balance because the rim is not seated properly on the hub.
Any other ideas?

check for wheel trueness, after that, check your tire condition. If you have worn shocks, you can
wear your tires out of balance. Yes, if they torqued the first wheel bolt fully, it could definitely not seat the wheel right on the hub. Hand tighten the bolts and torque in a Star pattern. Get Hunter road force balancing. Its the most accurate way to balance.

And preferably not tightened at all until all 5 bolts are in snug....
1. Install all 5 bolts finger tight
2. Tighten the bolts to 1/2 final torque, using star pattern.
3. Tighten the bolts to final torque, using star pattern.
This will get you the best possible fit between the wheel and the hub. I'm with Dan- who is dumb enough to install wheel bolts with an air gun? (Removal doesn't matter, however).

I do
Hello,
I put lug nuts on with an air powered impact wrench all the time. And I never have any problems.
Oh yeah, my wrench is calibrated to 80 ft lb in the forward direction. And I put each nut on in a star pattern. And I use a torque wrench to do the final tightening. Maybe that's why :-)

I always use the impact gun on my wheels, never had any vibrations.
And believe me, I took my wheels off at least 20 times more than I've ever wanted to. Just need to make sure to clean the rotor and the wheel surface, start them by hand and go on the star pattern.
