Default Tire Pressure Monitor - Faulty Sensor?

First post to this board with the first Audi in the family.

Our '04 A8L (new as of October) has been indicating that the tire pressure sensor is malfunctioning, but only intermittently. Have other owners noticed the same problem? Is this a common issue with the TPM system on the new A8s? Will our local dealer be able to cure it?

Any input on this would be greatly appreciated!

Default Re: Tire Pressure Monitor - Faulty Sensor?

I've got the same issue. Dealer has the car as i type. Sensor lights up on the instrument cluster and when I stop the car and go to MMI for tire pressure readings, no values are shown. This has happened twice to me. This car is a replacement for an A8 that had a faulty transmission and an electrical system that was never right. I know the service people are dying over this latest problem as this is my fourth Audi/Porsche from this dealership. Will keep you posted.

Default Got any pictures of your car?

I don't have an Oyster Gray/Platinum up on the gallery on audipages. Can you either post them to your picture poster or just email me (click my PaulW) above.

Would love to put them up. Welcome.<ul><li><a href="http://www.audipages.com/gallery/2004a8l.html">Here's where I would put them</a></li></ul>

Default Yes, a known issue.

Yes, I had this issue with my '04 Audi A8L. I posted rather complete information on this back in June and July.

Default I had similar issues with my 2000 Corvette...

They also have low tire pressure warning systems. There were two issues; cold weather would make the tires (and air within) contract, so what would be a good pressure one day would be very low the next. The other issue was with the sensors themselves; the change in temperature didn't help the sensors operate and sometimes they would send no signal at all.

In order to get it fixed I had to pull into the dealership with a good tire, but the sensor reporting 0 psi in the tire. I called the service manager over and explained "How does that tire look to you? Why does my dash then say this?" They worked on it right away and replaced all four sensors with a newer revision. The sensor only failed in weather less than 30 degrees.

I will post some pictures of the car as soon as I have some time. IMHO, it is a stunning color combination.

Default Tire Pressure Monitor

I have the same problem. The car has been in twice and the technician was on the hot line and said it was software issues. For the 1st 3 days it worked; the indicator of "malfunction" came on again and back it went to Audi. Yesterday out of the blue- same problem! This all started when I put on new snow tires- wonder if there is a problem when you remove all 4 wheels?

Default Re: Tire Pressure Monitor

That's interesting because we're looking at ordering a set of Bridgestone snows mounted on aftermarket wheels (17") from the Tire Rack and one of the questions they do ask is if the car is equipped with TPM. So, it obviously makes a difference when mounting the winter tires on new wheels.

However, we have not yet gone to the winter setup and are in fact still using our 19" wheels and tires from the factory.

Default Tire Pressure Monitor

I put on 19" LM-22 Blizzak's- they are the best!
