Default Tozo and transmission gurus need your help .....

My friends' from college 2000 A6 2.7T had transmission issues, took it to his mechanic, who said that he did not know how to fix it, so he proposed to send the car to a transmission shop that he used before. My friend said ok, so they towed the car to the other shop. After claiming that they rebuilt it, they sent the car to the first mechanic on a flat bed. His mechanic told him that the TCM and the ECM are burned now and does not know the cause. In the meantime my stupid friend paid the transmission shop $3,700 in repairs. I am going to take a look with the vag tool this sunday, but I really don't know where to start from. What could they possibly do wrong when they rebuilt the transmission to burn the computers and not a fuse? The original problem with the transmission was that it was locked in 2nd gear.
The other thing he told me is that they replaced the TCM. Do you kow if the 01-03 TCM's are compatible with the 00?
Hope you can help me help him out of this mess.

Default You need a lot more info than that

First off, anybody who would pay for a transmission rebuild and not drive it first has something wrong with them. Obviously the car was never driven after the rebuild if it was brought over with a flat bed.

They probably have no idea what they are talking about, how could you fry the TCU and ECU? I'm gussing no unless they hooked the battery up backwards and left it that way for a long time.

I would stop payment on that $3,700 ASAP if possible.

Default Thanks Paul I'll have more info when i check the polarity of the battery.

Well I tried to make the long story short, and created a confusion.
They rebuilt the transmission, the car was ok for a couple of weeks, and of course they got paid, then the transmision went bad and that is when the car came back on the tow truck with as they claim burned computers. Now that I am thinking about it it could be done on purpose to avoid fixing the tranny again...?

Default Can't believe the ECU and TCU are bad

It sounds like there is a problem in the tranny that needs to be fixed again.

Default We need to see the codes. It is possible that they opened the ECU box

and forgot to put back the cover. Now it is flooded. I don't know if the A6 has the ECU/TCU under the hood like the A8.
