I saw in your signature line it says Windows XP and custom navigation, please explain? I have been wanting to put a computer in my car, but haven't really figured out what I should do. Thanks.

It is hardwired to the CD changer. 15GB music and the navigation works at the same time. It is under $1000, but need a little cutting and wiring.

is this done by the ignition and if so how does it have time to shut down properly or does it simply go to hibernate mode if not used??

If I press the power button, the laptop goes standby in 3 sec. The next time I start the car, I just press it again and it runs in 8 seconds with Winamp music and teletype GPS. I've setup Windows XP to run simple but fast. If you go to msconfig, you can disable most of the unnecessary windows crap.
Oh yea, there is NO lawyer screen to accept unlike any factory nav system.

With a relay I can toggle between the CD changer and the laptop. The screen is a VGA screen, so it works as an external monitor. You just have to chose " Do nothing" control panel/power options/advanced/when I close the lid on the laptop.
